FOR TEACHERS
VERBATIM THEATRE WORKSHOPS
Our signature workshops use Verbatim Theatre to help students amplify their own voices, insights and stories through original “live documentaries”. Professional theatre-facilitators engage your class in questions of social justice including privilege, colonialism, and systemic marginalization. As creators and subjects, students undergo the process of leading an interview, selecting which words get used, and choosing how to perform those words.
Learning Outcomes:
Students will learn Verbatim Theatre-making techniques and how the arts and social justice intersect; they will gain meaningful insights about ethical storytelling/representation, dialectical thinking and argument, as well as the power of their own ‘real life’ narratives as a way of challenging stereotypes or assumptions.
Structure:
Intro to Verbatim (one or two sessions)
- An introduction to the ethics, process, and outcomes of creating Verbatim Theatre.
OR
Verbatim Creation Unit (up to five sessions)
- Includes dramaturgical support as students work to create their own full length verbatim work.
Cost:
$300 CAD/session (If cost is a barrier be sure to connect with us about other possible price models.)
This program is currently being offered online/virtually for students across the country, as well as in-person for Toronto area schools!
