PH 1:1
Supporting Youth-On-The-Margins through One-to-One Mentorships in the Arts
PH 1:1 pairs youth-on-the-margins with professionally recognized artists for 12 weeks of free mentorship in any artistic discipline chosen by the youth. PH 1:1 helps youth overcome isolation and social exclusion by building confidence, equipping them with hard and soft skills, and connecting them to arts communities outside the shelter/organization.
Since May 2020, PH 1:1 (formerly the COVID-19 Artist Partnership Program) has been working with 7 shelters and youth-serving organizations across the GTA to pair youth with professional artists for 1:1 online mentorship in a discipline of their choosing – from music and visual arts to flamenco dance, up-cycled crafting and game design.
Watch the video below, which gives a peak at our 2021 (en)compass exhibition. Hear the story of how the creative minds of youth and artists from our PH 1:1 mentorship program came together during the peak of the pandemic in pursuit of connection, direction, and affirming relationships within the arts:
As a permanent offering to youth-on-the-margins, PH 1:1 aims to annually support the creativity and wellbeing of dozens of youth like Joy and Sarah, as well as create gainful employment for professional artists like Mikaela as teachers of their craft.
